Best Week Ever posts are a summary of the past week
Texas summers are all about embracing the heat.
You’ll need plenty of water (and a shower) if you are outside for more than a few minutes. This translates shorter dog walks and a lot of laundry.
When we try to become more ambitious with the dog walks, we quickly regret it. Even our walks from Oak Lawn to downtown Dallas get dicey after 11 a.m.

Starting the dog walks early does not ensure a drama-free experience – I came across a body last week.

In addition to sweating it out on the dog walks and dreaming of a First 48 cameo, we spent a lot of time with new and old neighbors – drag shows, wine walks, and building happy hours.

The security presence in the gayborhood continues to be strong, but muggings, car thefts, and burglaries are still a problem. I don’t consider Oak Lawn to be dangerous however – this is just the normal amount of crime you can expect in an urban neighborhood with a club district.
I think most of the injuries and property loss in the area are self-inflicted. Do you know where your keys are?

The last week also brought some exciting Supreme Court decisions – Utah v. Strieff shredded our Fourth Amendment protections, but Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt rightfully thwarted Texas’s ability to stop abortions in the majority of the state.
Hopefully the coming week will bring more long happy hours, less heat-stroke, and better judicial opinions.
