Black Lives Matter Plaza

Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, DC.

One of Washington D.C.’s newest monuments is “Black Lives Matter Plaza,” a portion of 16th Street Northwest closest to the White House.

Mayor Bowser renamed the area amid the George Floyd protests and commissioned a large-scale painting of “Black Lives Matter” on the street.

The slogan is a little hard to read at street-level, but that doesn’t stop throngs of tourists from visiting — including me.

I am not sure whether the paint job will be permanent, or what happens when the street eventually reopens. I am curious whether slogans will appear elsewhere as well. 🎨
