Notes from iLume Park

Gunter at Happy Hour

Welcome to Melrose Place

It’s Saturday and I’m walking my dog around the front of my apartment complex. I notice police lights and see a thin blond woman getting arrested by two bored-looking Dallas PD officers.

It’s only 11:30 a.m.

A group of residents appears outside.

Everyone seems to have a unique horror story about her prior scenes and blowups.
Me: “What kind of ratchet-ass building did I move into that someone is getting hauled off by the cops before noon?!”

Neighbor: “Oh, it’s really just her. This isn’t the first time she’s been arrested either.”
Charming.

It is my second week at iLume Park, and this building is definitely interesting.

The best thing about this building – the free daily happy hours make it extremely easy to meet people.

I frequently join happy hour friends at the pool, grill, dog parks, and the hoard of gay bars in front of our door.

The worst thing about this building – hanging out with your neighbors means that you quickly find out everyone’s drama.

For example, a few days ago this guy brings a police report to happy hour.

The police were called the night before because he got into a dramatic, no good“do you want to fight?”  argument with his downstairs neighbors.

There was talk of restraining orders and possible charges.

Honey Boo Boo Child Drama

There are also a few residents who routinely break the community rules by doing minor things like bringing too many people to the pool, or failing to pick up after their dogs.

These apparently are serious offenses to some people.

My goal is not to piss anyone off anytime soon. (First step being staying out of other people’s apartments.)

If I fail, at least my lease is only for 6 months.
