Sushi brunch

"All you can eat" sushi brunch at Gui

All-you-can-eat sushi is a thing that exists.

Winslow’s, our normal brunch spot, unexpectedly went out of business last week. So we had to try something new.

One of our favorite bartenders recommended Gui, a place in Uptown Dallas that has “all you can eat” sushi.

It was $25 per person for the basic sushi rolls, and $30 per person for the premium rolls. All of the sushi is made to order.

One important caveat is that they will charge you full price for anything left over. So you have to finish your plate.

Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, and we were a little horrified by how much food kept coming. At one point, I felt like that girl from Willy Wonka who balloons and turns blue.

The menu doesn’t indicate how many “pieces” come with each roll, so we ordered way more food than we expected.

We had a great time (despite our waitress not knowing what a ‘mimosa’ is.)

Although “all you can eat” sushi seems like a steal for $25, it was about double what we normally spend on brunch. The threat of a leftover upcharge also meant that we ate way too much. The waitress probably thought we were hogs.

I think we’ll stick to a more conventional brunch next time.
