$10 Starbucks, Reddit trolls, The Weather Channel smackdown

Starbucks on a Delta flight

Here’s what I’m talking about this morning:

1. Expensive coffee: Starbucks recently opened a high-end version of its stores in an attempt to attract “millennials.” Apparently, millennials are really into $10 cups of coffee.

I’m at the tail-end of the millennial group and a $10 cup of coffee doesn’t appeal to me at all. Maybe the younger kids have expensive tastes?

2. Trump is Time Magazine’s Person of the Year: And it was well-earned.

Remember that this is an award for the most influential person, not the best. Hitler and Stalin also earned the title.

3. Why trolls rule Reddit: Gizmodo has a fascinating look into how trolls are hijacking the conversation on Reddit. I remember message boards from the 90’s, and it seems like very little has changed. I was never a big Reddit user, but I did frequent (the now-quiet) Law School Discussion boards, which had an endless supply of drama.

4. The Weather Channel: They called out Breitbart and it was hilarious.

5. The Great Discontent: A magazine comprised of interviews with creative people. It’s inspiring and usually pretty insightful. (It’s also a great place to get book recommendations.)

Tonight

Here’s what’s going on in the gayborhood tonight:

  • 6 p.m. –  9 p.m.  There’s something festive going on at the Round-Up Saloon, and it involves Christmas cookies.
  • 9 p.m. – close: Latin Night at Havana’s, and there’s typically a drag show.
