Justifying the violence

Gertrude the Rottweiler.

It has happened three days in a row now: it is around 4 am. I am on my fifth hour of sleep, and I hear a sigh from the side of my bed.

I curse under my breath. Gertrude does a Marge Simpson grumble.

I then try to ignore Gertrude, and she flings herself on the floor dramatically and sighs, over and over, until I take her out.

The cold and the fact that I have just about 5 hours of sleep means that I am now wide awake, but without enough sleep to last me the day, so I waste an hour getting back to sleep and wake up later than I want to.

I tried something new and fed the dogs before tonight’s long walk around Loring Park. This way, when and if Gerturde tries to wake me up again, the violence will be justified.

We’ll see how this goes.

It’s a tough balance not letting a dog push you around versus taking heed of a dog’s asking to go outside and use the bathroom. One night, my female lab kept crying to let me out, I ignored her, and the next morning, she left me a half dozen ‘presents’ on the floor.

    Sigh. Story of my life.
