It’s still pool season in Dallas.
My building always has an informal pool party on Labor Day. The management company stocks the pool fridge with about 100 pounds of meat and soda, which we can grill throughout the weekend.
Almost everyone also brings cocktails to my apartment building’s pool, but most us don’t put much effort into our drinks.
This weekend it was time to step our cocktail game up.
Ingredients
- Chocolate Candy Bars
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Chocolate Syrup
- Maraschino Cherries
- Nut Topping
- Milk
- Cream Liquor
- Rum
- Ice
The steps are simple:
- Chop up the candy bars
- Throw the candy in a blender with ice, ice cream, milk, rum, and cream liquor
- Garnish with the maraschino cherries and chocolate syrup
- Enjoy responsibly
Customizing Your Cocktails
Be sure to mix your cocktails to match your preferences – you can leave the alcohol out, add protein mix, and forgo the garnishes to reduce the sugar load.
This is what we used per drink:
- 4 Small Candy Bars
- 2 Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream
- 1 Tablespoon of Chocolate Syrup
- 3 Maraschino Cherries
- 1 Cup of Whole Milk
- 1 Shot Cream Liquor
- 1 Shot Rum
- 1 Cup of Ice
If you are making cocktails for multiple people, consider creating a base mix that everyone can top off with their own levels of alcohol and garnishes.
Some Tips and Reminders:
- Drink responsibly if you want to be invited back to the pool
- Serve the drinks with tall glasses of water so you don’t hate yourself in the morning
- Consider serving in plastic cups so you don’t get glass in the pool
The glass thing is particularly important in Texas – My building has threatened $1,000 fines for anyone who breaks glass in the pool.
Apparently the entire thing needs to be drained if that happens. (yikes!)

September 8, 2015 at 7:02 pmI like my Nestle Crunch mixed with ice cream and chocolate syrup. I also like to make it as a desert like milkshake. I might try your recipe but without the alcohol.
