“Dating” apps are a fact of life for most single gay men.
Although these apps can be entertaining, they are mostly just reminders about how terrible people are.
There are many creeps, bots, and boogeymen on gay dating apps, but the most confusing character is the guy who is genuinely confused about why people won’t chat with him before receiving a face picture.
I normally just block these clowns, but sometimes I do some #gaysplaining:
Why you need a face pic to chat
It’s simple really – chatting with anyone on a dating app involves a certain amount of trust. I’m not going to engage in a lengthy conversation with some anonymous person trying to catfish me from the bushes.
Also, the indignation about me asking for a face picture is completely hypocritical – didn’t you message me on the basis of my face picture? Do I look so bored or desperate that I would have conversations with anonymous people online?
This isn’t a 1998 AOL chat room or Twitter.
