My Favorite Songs of the Moment

I recently played music at a friend’s birthday party and I was shocked that no one recognized the majority of my songs.

For example, no one had heard of Sam Lao, who is the hottest artist in Dallas right now. I was horrified!

Growing up, music was a more communal experience. You knew what was on the radio and MTV. That was pretty much it.

Although we will always recognize the new songs from Beyonce or Rihanna, I don’t think we share enough music with each other. So, in the interest of oversharing, here are my top 10 songs of the moment.

Unfortunately, not many of these songs have music videos, but some do. Here are my three favorites:

I’m in Control (Magician Remix) – AlunaGeorge feat. Popcaan

AlunaGeorge has been a favorite ever since the blockbuster remix of “You Know You Like It” by Tchami. Their original songs are alright, but the remixes are amazing.

Be Right There – Diplo & Sleepy Tom

My favorite thing about this song is that sounds like a remix of a 90’s dance hit. I am not sure if it is a cover of an older song, but this is Diplo House at its finest.

That Other Girl – Sevdaliza

I came across this song because my TV’s YouTube app recommended it. The video reminds me of classic Björk.

Honorable Mention: Best Friend

Although this song is a bit older, I still play “Best Friend” by Tokyo Vanity frequently. It is an obnoxious viral hit which we still demand request at the bars around here.
