The Body

Park Image

I saw a body on the morning dog walk.

Well, first I saw the bicycle cops near the Katy Trail.

Then I saw the tired-looking newswoman and the photographer.

I followed their gaze to the middle of the park, where a bunch of detectives and officers stood around a tarp that covered the body.

It felt like arriving on the set of Law & Order, just with more heat and fewer commercial breaks. (It is typically the jogger who discovers the body, isn’t it?)

This happened on Tuesday, and there were very few details in the news until today – apparently the person was a 25-year-old male who killed himself.

It is odd think that a 25-year-old was ending his life on my dog walk route as I left my apartment.

The body was found between Lee Park and Katy Trail, which is a pretty weird place to kill yourself. This overgrown park area is home to many drug addicts, so I wonder if it was actually an overdose.

The area is also near the new Perot Family headquarters, which will likely push the homeless population to other parts of Oak Lawn after construction finishes. Hopefully we won’t have similar events closer to the apartment – I don’t want my morning jogs to be this eventful again.
