We explored Southwest Washington D.C. for the first time this weekend and came across this funky multicolored church.
The former Baptist church is now Blind Whino, a nonprofit art gallery and performance venue. It was free to look around, and there were several cool art installations.

The upstairs event space has a pretty remarkable mural that stretches onto the ceiling. We didn’t linger however because the air circulation was pretty bad up there.
You can see most of the space within 10-20 minutes, assuming that you don’t dwell at particular exhibits.
Coming across Blind Whino was a good reminder that the best way to explore a new city is on foot — we never would have come across this place if we weren’t basically roaming this area of town. However, one downside to this type of exploration is unexpectedly ending up in sketchy areas (that’s happened once or twice.)

When to go to Blind Whino
The gallery is open on the weekends from noon to 5 p.m., and there are occasional weekday events (like open mic night.) The space is also available for private event rentals.
Blind Whino SW Arts Club is located at 700 Delaware Avenue S.W., in Washington D.C. — it’s also fairly close to the Waterfront-SEU Metro Station, but parts of the neighborhood look like they could be questionable at night. Metro or drive if you’re going early — Uber if you’re going to be there late. 🚨
