So! I got the financial aid and housing information from the school. I actually had it in my inbox while I was bitching about not having it yet. Sorry.
The financial aid side of things is still “wait and see.” More waiting than seeing obviously.
The housing information is a little more hopeful. I’m speaking to another first year who I may end up rooming with.
I also applied to Gamma Eta Gamma, a legal fraternity which offers housing for $300 a month. Holler.
And of course the old temptations are back –FSU Law contacted me today and offered a three-year scholarship and campus trip if I was interested.
Yes, the teeth were clenched as I wrote back, “No thank you I am going to the University of Minnesota School of Law in the fall…”
I spent undergrad at a safety school that threw a lot of money at me and I’m not spending another three years wondering “what if?”
No, no, no.
I got into my first choice school and I’m going to it. We’ll figure out that bucu debt thing later…
So, lots of excitement. – I’m still hammering some things out with future roommate dude, waiting on the loan situation, and and and.

June 2, 2008 at 6:21 pmWe really do seem to be in similar positions. I could’ve saved a lot of money if I’d gone to a certain tier 2 school but I don’t think that I would’ve been content with missing out on the opportunities that I’d get to UIUC.
Good luck with your housing situation. Getting financial information this late in the game is ridiculous. Apartments geared for college students may be more flexible when waiting for documentation. The company I’m with has been good so far.
And I guess you’re right about that kind of job not needing to know that I’m going to leave in August, but I’ve worked there twice and they never had a problem with it before. Fortunately some smooth talking got me the job in the end.

July 11, 2009 at 3:22 pmI should have started reading through all your archives earlier. Let’s see…a little over one month from orientation I have:
1. Turned down a full ride from one law school to attend my first choice that miraculously accepted me off its waiting list.
2. Vowed to attend first choice because I went to a [much loved] safety school [read: only school I applied to] for undergrad instead of the ivy leaguers I wanted to attend and will not spend three more years wondering what if.
3. Been introduced to the waiting game that is financial aid.
4. Totally jacked up my housing situation by choosing to attend first-choice school and am still trying to find a place to live/roommate, though I am in contact with a couple people via email.
5. Told my mom – after we saw the extra 25k in debt I will incur over 3 years for going to first choice school – that I’m just going to figure out that debt thing later. And pray really hard.
This is fun; interested to see what I’ll find as the perusing of the archives continues. Cheers.
