A friend of mine recently posted this on facebook:
“A guy walked up to me last night randomly and said the following: “I don’t think I’d know what to do if I were a black guy in this city. I mean no one really wants to date you guys from what I’ve seen. I don’t even date black guys and I think of myself as a pretty liberal person. That’s gotta be tough cause you’re a pretty cute guy” *sigh. seriously? FML”
That is hilarious because it is true.
Being a gay black guy in Minneapolis is rough: the people that flock to you tend to have a fetish, and you are just “too different” for everyone else.
Most people think that it is wrong to write you off based on race but they do it anyway because they can’t get past the stereotypes.
The automatic assumption in Minneapolis is that all black guys are uneducated and underemployed. I’ll get shot down by a 28-year-old white guy who doesn’t even have a full-time job because he thinks that I am inferior. It happens all the time, but that is fine with me because I cannot force someone to like me.
Plus I’m the color that he wants to tan to, I have my degrees and my corporate job, and his color preference is something wholly out of my control.
