Blackouts & Falling Bricks

iLume Park Building Collapse

Yesterday was a strange work day.

In addition to an usual amount of WebEx meetings, the power kept shutting off in my building. This made for several unscheduled dog walks, which Ingrid and Gunter appreciated.

After work I made my way down to the iLume Park “Grand Happy Hour” – a weekly lobby happy hour which replaced the daily happy hours from when I first moved in.

There was a fairly good turnout, but people spent the majority of the time griping about our daily happy hours being taken away.

Happy Hour is also a strange thing in this building because angry former residents sometimes show up uninvited to bitch about how much they hate iLume Park (while drinking the free booze at iLume Park…)she-doesnt-even-go-here

The conversation quickly switched to the scene outside of the building – the front entrance to iLume Park was cordoned off because a portion of the building’s brick façade came crashing down.

The front of iLume Park was shut down after a brick facade fell off of the front of the parking garage.

No one was injured, but the main garage entrance is still shut down.

This is a huge pain-in-the-ass because iLume Park is surrounded by busy one-way streets, and you have to loop around the block and risk getting T-boned to reach the parking garage now.

We migrated to the Cedar Springs Taphouse after Happy Hour. While ordering our first drink the power went out for the entire gayborhood yet again, and our bartender had to make cocktails by cellphone-light.

My favorite bartender serving cocktails by cellphone-light because of a power outage at the Cedar Springs Taphouse.

Power was restored within a few minutes, but these outages are pretty frequent.

Is this is a Texas thing?
