Another Day, Another Pageant

We started the week with a drag pageant, and we ended the week with one too!

Yesterday, the Rose Room hosted the Miss Dallas FFI drag pageant and it was… colorful.

Overall, the pageant was hilarious.

The Pros: The host was funny, the contestants were experienced, and the entertainment numbers were actually entertaining.

The Cons: The host got drunk and shrill, the contestants were slow to get on stage, and the DJ struggled to play the right songs for some of the girls.

There was a highly awkward moment when two of the contestants performed the same song for their talent numbers. The host joked that every other contestant would have to give their interpretation of the song to win.

The pageant also dragged on well past 2 a.m. despite starting at 10 p.m. – at one point we decided that we didn’t care enough who won, so we went home.

It appears that Station 4 is taking security more seriously.

I noticed an intense new bouncer eyeing us down when we entered Station 4. When we left the bar, that same bouncer and the poor door-staff were preventing a plastered guy from forcing his way into the bar (at 2:30 a.m.)

I think S4 is trying to reduce the amount of drama inside of the bar by keeping the messes from entering in the first place. (This is likely the hardest job in the world.)

Despite the length and technical issues, the pageant was a fun event. We hope to see amateur night return next Thursday!
