Dallas Pride was this weekend and things were interesting.
All the typical things happened – there were drag queens, ridiculous outfits, sloppy messes, and brawling lesbians.
Unlike Minneapolis gay pride or Chicago gay pride, I got to experience this parade as a resident. My building is right in the heart of the metroplex’s gay district, so I didn’t have any of the typical logistics to worry about.
My building also threw a block party for residents with a drag stage and open bar. My neighbors and I spent most of our time watching from our gated-off VIP section on the parade route.
Shots from Strangers
In addition to the open bar, there were also these guys from a local HIV resource center walking around handing out jello shots. I think they overestimated the number of party attendees, so they ended up giving 10+ shots to each person.
There were also a few randoms handing out jello shots from their backpacks… I think they were rophycolada flavored….
…so we were all a little loopy by the end of the evening.
It was a fun event though!
Getting Old
One thing that became clear this weekend is that I no longer have the stamina to day drink and make it through the night.
I ended up falling asleep at 7pm on Saturday, and 10pm on Sunday night.
That probably saved me a lot of money.
I also couldn’t keep up with my neighbors day drinking, which is also probably not the worst thing.
We also saw drag royalty.
Alyssa Edwards was at the iLume Party (or rather at a private party in the balcony above the stage).
I had a paparazzi moment.
Dallas is full of drag race stars – I think Bianca Del Rio stayed in my building for like 2 weeks while filming some movie. I’ve also seen Kennedy Davenport a few times.
I wanted to see if Alyssa was performing at the local drag bar, but didn’t stay up long enough.
This pride involved a lot of free alcohol and sleeping, so I guess it was a success?
