Jansen’s Top Songs for November

It’s time for another list of the songs that make me shimmy and shake.

Let’s start with Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine. It’s like Emily Haines and Sarah Ferguson had a baby that decided to take after Lady Gaga. I’m obsessed with Florence’s “The Dog Days are Over” and live most of my life with that song on repeat. Here is a live version:

Sing girl. Sing.

Also on the list is Lil Wayne’s “Brand New” which has the best line in all rap: “You think you fresh? / N– I’m ripe!” I have yet to use that line, but I will. Trust me.

There’s also Willow Smith, Will Smith’s daughter. The DJs at Jetset must be sick of us requesting her, but the song is hilarious to dance to. The video for Whip My Hair also features vogue diva Leiomy Mizrahi as the hair-whipping school teacher, which is reason enough to request the song each and every time we go out.

And of course, I had to include Barbra Streisand on the list. It’s an obnoxiously catchy house song. When I’m not playing Dog Days, I’m running around the apartment singing Barbra Streisand’s “Wooowooohooowoo” hook. The dogs think I’m nuts.

The full list is available on youtube, and a tracklisting is below:

  1. Dog Days are Over – Florence + The Machine

This is probably my favourite of the “Dog Days” live shows, if only for the fact that she can run in massively high heels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0anIVqYYyM

While singing live too! Love it! She could have used some background dancers for that one though.
