There is a huge abandoned building in the Minnehaha falls park that used to house the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Mines.
We figured out why it was abandoned.
The building is actually quite pretty in a retro-library sort of way. Click the thumbnails for larger pictures. RSS/Facebook readers: click here if the gallery did not load.

May 30, 2012 at 11:59 amNice pictures. I have around 60 or so pics of the interior of the main building which I took about a week prior to the building being torn down.
A quick funny story, the last thing I saw as I was exploring the area: The asbestos cancer and lung disease sign.
That and I was always curious as to the buildings name, or what it was used for….

June 12, 2012 at 6:24 pmThe asbestos is probably why they tore the thing down. Don’t worry, though, mesothelioma takes decades to develop.
