We had a little gathering in the gayborhood.
Oak Lawn hosts the largest Halloween block party in Dallas. The block party was pretty huge this year, with several pop-up bars along Cedar Springs.
Too crowded to boogie
We strolled around the block party for about an hour. A lot of people had absolutely no idea who Ken Bone was, so I spent most of my time flashing his picture on my phone.
The most common reaction was, “Oh, the guy from the debates!”
We briefly entered JR’s Bar & Grill and then realized that it was too crowded to get a drink, so we left Oak Lawn and headed to some straight bars.
Apparently some of the bar covers in Cedar Springs were up to $50, so leaving the neighborhood was probably a good life choice. Also, way more people at the straight bars recognized me as Ken Bone. (I’m not sure what to think about that.)
There was one brawl at Beauty Bar, but the bouncers ejected those people pretty quickly.
The plan
If we go to the block party next year, I think we’ll arrive earlier to stake out a spot at one of the bars. Half of my neighbors seemed to be hosting pre-parties, so we’ll try to actually make it to one of those as well.
And perhaps I’ll consider skipping the niche political costumes.
