Redfield’s Tavern in the Medical District

Redfield’s Tavern is one of my few favorite spots, conveniently located right by the gayborhood in Dallas’ Medical District.

With most of the bars on The Strip still closed, the queens have coopted this supposedly-straight venue.

Redfield’s is the go-to place for several reasons: the food is great, the staff is either LGBT or LGBT-friendly, and the enclosed patio/beer garden space is amazing.

Did I mention the food?

Dallas’ favorite faux-gay bar

Redfield’s reminds me a lot of many of the bar/restaurants back in Washington D.C. — gay-friendly venues that do not officially advertise themselves as gay bars.

On the weekend evenings, Redfield’s rapidly transitions from a mixed straight/gay crowd to fully-LGBT. Every group is at least half LGBT by 10 pm.

This past weekend, Shangela was even at the bar two days in a row — cementing Redfield’s status as Dallas’ top faux-gay bar of the moment.

Several bars in the gayborhood will reopen next month, so Redfield’s will soon have to decide how badly it wants to keep its gay clientele.

Right now, Redfield’s TVs are all sports, the music trends toward rock, and there are no drag events. This won’t cut it once the regular gay venues reopen.

Whether Redfield’s is a temporary gay bar or here to stay is unclear, however we are definitely grateful for the amazing pizza for now. 🍕
