I recently had the opportunity to return to Dallas to speak at a tax conference. It was a great way to meet existing and potential clients. This was also my first time giving a formal presentation on State and Local Taxation, which is not something every law firm allows first year associates to do.
And my presentation almost didn’t happen!
The night before the conference, we had a client dinner at Perry’s Steakhouse in Uptown Dallas. The food was okay, but I am not exactly a foodie.
So of course, I ended up getting full-blown food poisoning from dinner, and I literally only got a single hour of sleep before the full-day of presentations. However, by the morning, I had so much medicine in me that I was able to get it together. The presentations were well received, and I got to reconnect with coworkers who are based in our Atlanta and New York offices.
Returning to Oak Lawn
I also flew in the weekend before the conference, so you know I hit up all of my old haunts in the gayborhood.
I got to see my regular bartenders and former neighbors and coworkers. Not much has changed in the year that I left, aside from Cedar Springs Tap House, which had a 100% staff turnover. It was a fun weekend, busy work week, and a hectic flight back into Washington D.C., but I’m glad that I got a chance to visit Texas again.
