During a guest appearance on the Oprah show, Suze Orman took on a woman who was financially draining her sister and mother.
While touring [the woman’s] house, Suze says she isn’t surprised to find every room in utter chaos. “When you can’t respect what money can buy, you can’t respect money—period,” Suze says. “When somebody lives in such chaos, your inner soul is chaotic. Somebody who is at one with their inner self doesn’t feel good when things are chaotic around them.”
I was thinking about Suze’s words on the way home from school today because I ignored myself all week and my room began to resemble the woman’s house.
Everyday I went to Dunnhouse to study, then biked to school. After school I came home and either went straight to bed or vegged out in front of the TV and then went to bed.
And the room? Well, while wasn’t as extreme as the Oprah lady’s house, it was still bad.
I went shopping on Tuesday. The bags of clothes were still in the middle of my floor today… Along with piles of clean and dirty clothes. And shoes. Yeah.
My room looked like my dresser and hamper got into a bitchfight that somehow sucked to the shoerack in, against its will. (Shoeracks being peaceful by nature)
Suze basically said, “Having a messy (house, room) is bratty. You’re waving a big middle finger at all those who bought the things that are now carelessly tossed about and, of course, yourself. For shame.”
Today I passed up bar review with the section and went straight home after class. I did laundry, cleaned the room, and moved some furniture around. I also did the things I’ve neglected to do all week: listened to music, read fiction, painted, and just relaxed.
And it’s been amazing.
Self renewal. It’s the business.
