I came across a MTV documentary called “White People.”
The 2015 documentary is by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas.
In the film, Vargas goes to several places around the country and interviews young white people both in individual and group settings.
The film is deliciously awkward, and full of quotes like, “As a white person, you kind of get this feeling that things belong to you.”
Although many say that the documentary doesn’t go deep enough, I think it’s still worth watching.
Many of the film’s scenes reminded me of the worst moments that I had in Minnesota, and made me very grateful that I made the move to Dallas.
Although I live in an extremely diverse city now, I still have awkward moments, such as white neighbors casually dropping the n-word.
Thankfully those moments are rare.
