My first time at the Dallas Zoo

A very cold zoo adventure

I haven’t been to a zoo since the Dallas World Aquarium last year and this was a dramatically different experience.

It’s cold by Texas standards, so the zoo was mostly abandoned and many of the animals were hidden in their pages. I think that’s why we got discount tickets. It was still fun however.

Dallas Zoo Gorilla

The gorilla didn’t appreciate us interrupting his (or her) meal by gawking.

The gorillas were not here for us.

The gorillas were extremely bored with all of the zoo guests. Every time we saw one, it would roll its eyes and walk away.

There’s also something about gorillas which causes people to lose their damn minds.

Specifically, there were these horrible children screaming “HARAMBE!” and an entire family who insisted on banging on the glass to get the attention of the apes.

Rude.

Beside the gorillas, my favorites were the African pigs and charismatic penguins.

My least favorite animals were the snakes and creepy vultures. The giant cats were also terrifying.

Observations

I was surprised by the lack of open concession stands at the zoo, but I think that was due to the low attendance numbers.

We also were strongly encouraged to take the train ride in the zoo’s African section, which was totally worth it. Many exhibits are only visible from that train ride.

I also may have smuggled some overpriced soda onto the ride.

worth it

If we go back to the zoo, it’ll probably have to be during the summer. Maybe the gorillas will be in a better mood then.
