Best Summer Ever: Weeks 3 & 4.

It is 3am. Our group is outside of Pizza Luce in downtown Minneapolis, and an oversized bouncer is frisking us for weapons.

The bouncer pats us down, lifts our pant legs, asks for IDs, and then tells us the cover is $4. “Cover” is probably not the right word. It was applied to our pizza, so it was more like a down payment. I still thought all of this was a bit odd for a pizzeria, until I got inside

After getting searched and charged, we stroll inside and experience the ghettofabulous scene: there were pimp suits, neon mesh leggings, candy colored stilettos, sweated-out weaves, grills, jelly rolls, folds, muffins, and zebras…. It was glorious.

We got our pizza and somehow made it to the Hotel Minneapolis without getting mugged. And although there are better pictures, I think this blurry shot best depicts the zombie-like fashion in which the guys attacked with pizza:

“We want brains!”

While inhaling the Pizza, we got into an hour long intellectual debate about Jersey Shore. We are overeducated. This happens.  The real topic was whether the “superficial” Jersey Shore lifestyle is really that much different than the yuppie lifestyle in Minneapolis.

My theory is that the overpriced cocktail/loft/clothes combination is just as superficial as the Jersey Shore lifestyle, but the main difference is cultural and economic. Matt disagreed. Sort of. It was late. Who knows?

Random nights like this were a theme of the past two weeks. Finals were done, my work and exercise schedule stabilized, and it was time to hang out with friends, date, and wear tacky bright shirts.

And it was fabulous:

Prada Diamond

That is Ms. Prada Diamond of the Gay 90’s in downtown Minneapolis. She was one of our favorites that night. I think Matt fell in love.

I also fell in love, but at the Saloon, and with a mullet:

Nick was nice enough to take that picture. I quickly sashayed away after that because she started ranting about the “animals in New Orleans” and started crying… I already had my picture taken with her and didn’t have the energy for the post-photo crazy. Maybe next time.

One thing that drove me crazy these past two weeks was the weather. I like that it is not miserably hot, but the constant threat of rain makes taking the dogs around the lakes too risky. We have had some fairly dramatic skies though:

It’s as if the kraken was unleashed.

It is always threatening to rain, and it has rained so much in the past week that mushrooms are taking over the neighborhood lawns.

I cringe everytime the dogs get in the mushrooms. I’m sure they are safe, but …ick.

My krakens are as crazy as ever.

I blame the weather-induced cabin fever.

I also started taking Harley to obedience training. He still drools better than he sits, but we are working on it. If treats don’t work then I may invest in a taser. They come in fashion colors now!

In addition to the dog training, I am working full time, taking a summer class, learning Ableton, and still dating apparently. Hm. Summer is busy, but I love it.
