UMN science teaching building

The university may have financial issues, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t money for a swank new building:

It feels like this east bank building was scaffolding just a few days ago. Construction pictures are here, and here.

I’m not sure if it’s ugly or not. It sort of looks like a kiosk from the Theme Park video game.

    UMN has a good chemistry program. When a professor receives grant money, the school gets its share (overhead). It’s like a tax and there’s lots of money to be had.

    Just the NIH funding for UMN is a quarter of a billion. I’m sure the funding from the NSF and other govt entities push that number even higher. Then there is private funding from corporations. The overhead for such grants is almost 50%. The university does well.

    Don’t let these guys poor-mouth you. They’re loaded.
