5 Blogs That I Actually Read

Apartment with laptop

I have a cyclical love-hate relationship with blogs and social media networks in general.

Here are the phases:

  1. Discovery: Gorging on great content and conversation, meeting new people. All is good.
  2. Silence: People get busy, fall silent.
  3. Spam: Bots and “brands” flow into the network and clutter my feeds with crap.
  4. Despair: I feel like the social network (and some blogs) have become an echo chamber of low-quality content
  5. Rediscovery: I find new blogs, start new conversations, and the cycle begins again.

I am currently in stage 5: rediscovery.

Here are the blogs (new and old) that I am excited about currently.

The Jenny Journey

Jenny Journey

Jennifer is actually one of my neighbors! When I am not bumping into her at the Cedar Springs Tap House brunch, I’m keeping up with her excellent travel photography.

Probably This

Probably This

Probably This is food porn a food and wine blog created by Beau and Matt, a lovely couple out of New Orleans. They specialize in “moody” food pictures – a style I’ve recently seen on the Starbucks menus in the area.

I recommend:

Jakey On…

Jackey Emmert

Jakey is a nightlife celebrity back in Minneapolis. Jakey’s blogs are sporadic but in a long-form comedic style which I haven’t seen in many other places. It’s basically Girls: Minneapolis Edition.

I recommend:

Ware is the Vodka

Ware is the Vodka

This is a Dallas lifestyle blog from Sevi Ware. She does a much better job of highlighting Dallas events than I do. Sevi also has some fiction pieces on her blog, which is pretty unique.

  • Diversity Chic: Kaia F.I.T.

Style By Emily Henderson

Emily Henderson

Emily is a HGTV interior decorator who had a show called Secrets from a Stylist. Although I’ve never watched the show, I have been a loyal reader of her blog for a long time.

It’s essentially the best of a HGTV interior design show in blog form.
