The Toast of the Townhouse Pageant was …interesting. About half of the contestants took it seriously and Mercedes Iman won!
All hail the Queen.
The votes took a while to be tabulated, so the host had to stall. Kristin describes the commentary as “colorful,” but it was really a hot mess. There’s video.
The worst part is at the 3:40 mark when the host approaches Mercedes, the Somali drag queen, and says, “So there’s a famine in your country. I was watching the news this morning and all the people of Somalia are starving.”
She got booed for that one and then proceeded to make another Amy Winehouse joke. Awkward.
It made Mercedes’ victory even better though.
Mercedes won, but the best performance of the night goes to Phaedra Simone:

Two biological women participated in the pageant. One of the women treated the pageant as a complete joke and even wore fake deformed teeth for portions of it.
I accidentally offended a friend of the other “real woman” in the pageant by pointing out that she had no chance of placing. I tactfully told her that most pageant drag is about creating a female illusion or entertaining. Because her friend was a real woman, I thought the judges would probably expect an over-the-top Esme Rodriguez-eseque performance for her to have any chance of placing. I was right.
Putting a star on your dress and singing karaoke doesn’t cut it.
