Jill on Backpacks

Rolling Backpack

Today, before the start of Crimlaw:

Jack: “Are you looking at my rolly backpack?”
Jill: “Yes. And judging accordingly.”
Jack: “What? I got it for my birthday and I’m so excited about it.”
Jill: “That’s nice.”
Jack: “…I just got sick of carrying so much shit around. I had so many bags and I looked like a homeless person.”
Jill: “You can buy cute bags though. Note my big purse and briefcase. Or, you can try using your locker for books you don’t need.”
Jack: “And I just want my rolly backpack to be socially acceptable!”
Jill: “It never will be.”

I completely agree with Jill. Rolly bags are ONLY appropriate for airports and train stations. We are given lockers in law school for the very reason of avoiding Rolly bags…

I think it’s that clunkity clunkity sound they may rolling down the hallway between classes. I would rather have my back hurt than make that sound.

Haha, I think it’s more inconvenient to drag something behind you than simply have multiple bags…

What I think it’s interesting that the rolly-baggers still go to their lockers after every class…

I really don’t see what the big deal is with rolling backpacks, lets look at this logically instead of whats been considered “lame” in high school…. it is really all up to preference. When I started my first semester as a 1L, I too, thought that these rolling backpacks were incredibly lame. Then I started to have to carry my books around campus, also, our parking garage is a considerable walk from campus and I live in FL …. ITS HOT!! After a few weeks into my semester my back was killing me… so I got a rolling backpack. Believe it or not, other students began to show up with them more and more. Instead of an actual backpack though, I got a rolling brief case and my back, shoulders and neck thanked me. I guess what I am trying to say is… don’t knock down a rolling backpack solely because they are “lame”. We are all at a PROFESSIONAL school, if anyone comments or judges you because of your backpack tell them to mind their own and let them suffer by carrying these incredibly heavy books around.

[…] and such… I would hold off buying anything other than maybe pens, one legal pad, and a bag (and please no rolly bags!) until you get the syllabi for your classes. Most of the stuff the bookstore scares you into buying […]
