My mom came to town this weekend for a business meeting, so we showed her how Dallas does Easter.
We had Easter brunch at Quesa MX, which is a Mexican restaurant on Cedar Springs.
I recently became re-interested in Quesa after they hosted a happy hour at iLume – the new manager said that he overhauled the menu and promised that the food was better.
We also passed Quesa on Saturday afternoon and realized that they still did bottomless mimosa brunch.
The way we could tell is because there was a guy on the patio laying in his own vomit.
His friend looked so upset…
Quesa was considerably calmer on Sunday, and the food was surprisingly good. I think Quesa will be a nice alternative to Mattito’s and Cedar Springs Tap House, which both get incredibly packed.
After brunch, we grabbed the dogs and went to the Easter dog parade near Turtle Creek.
It was quite the production.
I didn’t deck the dogs out for the Pooch Parade.
Although there were many intricate costumes at the parade, I am not quite ready to become that dog owner who shoves their dog into a fairy costume or dyes the dog crazy colors.
I did however let Ingrid wear the feather boa that I had left over from Halloween.
The Parade also made me reevaluate Gunter.
I always considered Gunter to be a pretty spastic and salty type of dog. He’s quick to growl at other dogs and is too prissy for my tastes.
However, seeing real Chihuahuas at the parade makes me appreciate what I have.
After the parade, we made our way to Uptown
Michael and I pass The Idle Rich Pub all the time, but didn’t make the effort to actually go until my mom got to town. It was pretty decent food and not terribly expensive.
I find Uptown to be very hit-or-miss. Some places are great, others are just douchey bars. I guess the situation on Cedar Springs isn’t terribly different…
We ended Easter on The Strip
Apparently Easter is a big bar holiday in Dallas (what isn’t?) We ended the day with cocktails and people watching at Woody’s.
I think there was some type of Easter Basket auction earlier in the day, but we probably missed it. The people watching was pretty epic, and we ran into a few bartender friends from elsewhere who were inexplicably not working.
It was a highly successful first Easter. Perhaps next year we’ll upgrade our hat game.
