Visiting the Stockyards is one of the touristy things to do in the DFW area.
So when my mom was in town over the holidays, we made the journey across the Metroplex and got to experience some Texas realness.
The Fort Worth Stockyards area is a fun historic district with steakhouses, tourist shops, and a rodeo. The prices aren’t bad, although I don’t know if the drive is worth making the trip again.
It’s something you have to do once though, if only for the food.
And the pictures.

Fort Worth is a strange place.
People who have never been to Dallas think that Dallas is like Fort Worth – a mostly vacant downtown, cattle in the street, tacky tourist shops, etc.
Whereas Dallas is modern and gorgeous, Fort Worth is more stereotypical Texas. One curious thing is that although Fort Worth is twice the size of Minneapolis in terms of population, Fort Worth’s downtown is far smaller.
Getting to Fort Worth was a bit of a challenge because my phone’s navigation kept thinking we were on service roads instead of the highway, thereby giving us the wrong directions. I knew that it was time to start ignoring the GPS woman after she said “stay in the right lane to keep left at the fork.”
Nope.
