Going Wireless

My new otium bluetooth headphones.

I recently made the switch to the Google Pixel phone and to my horror, it doesn’t have a phone jack! I am not sure if I am some technological dinosaur who is resistant to change, or whether this is truly a terrible idea — but I miss having a headphone jack. It was such a waste of time figuring out how to workaround this “innovation” and the solution doesn’t feel satisfying.

After toying with a clunky dongle for a while, I finally decided to buy two pairs of wireless headphones from Amazon.

First Pair = Garbage

The first set of headphones was a $21.99 pair from Vafru. Pairing the headphones with my phone was very awkward and they didn’t hold a charge very well. I returned the phones to Amazon within the first week after one of the earbuds stopped charging altogether — it was a complete fail.

Second Pair = Unfashionable

The second set of bluetooth headphones is another $21.99 pair from Otium. I think that the cord connecting the earbuds looks like a geeky neck-strap for glasses, however the headphones pair easily with my phone and hold a charge way better than the individual earbuds.

Coincidentally, I went to Big Box after purchasing the headphones and their salespeople confirmed that individual wireless earbuds hold about half the charge of connected earbuds, so I guess my fashion sense is taking a hit this year.

Although I finally figured out the wireless headphones, I still miss the convenience of traditional headphones that you don’t have to charge. I also have the new problem of accidentally leaving the apartment without my phone and not realizing it until I’m halfway down the hall and my headphone reception goes out.

The lack of a headphone jack is the only problem I have with the Google Pixel, and at this point, I’m just grateful when my phones don’t get recalled for exploding problems. 🎧
