Houstonians

We moved to Houston! Sort of …

Like many law firms, Eversheds is encouraging everyone to go back to the office at least a few times a month. The problem is that we don’t have an office in Dallas (yet!) so “popping into the office” means a four hour drive down to Houston.

It quickly became clear that skipping to Houston a few times a month was going to be quite expensive. There’s the expected cost of a downtown hotel and parking, but boarding two dogs in Dallas turns out to be as expensive as getting a second hotel. And unlike a regular business trip, none of the Houston visits are reimbursable because I’m choosing to live four hours from the office up in Dallas.

There is also a convenience factor — forgetting my work badge or formal shoes in Dallas, not having the right cords to charge all of the gadgets, etc. And that horrible Sunday scramble to get back up to Dallas before the dog boarding place closes for the day.

So we got a second apartment!

It’s a studio in a dog-friendly building close to the office. Nicer than a hotel, fixed cost, less stressful for the dogs, and less stressful for us because we can come and go as we please without extra charges.

This weekend will be spent putting together furniture and acclimating the dogs to the new space. Hopefully they’ll like it as much as we do! 💃
