Jefferson Memorial from a distance

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial from across the Tidal Basin.

I recently went to the Jefferson Memorial — it was my first time visiting a memorial up close since moving to Washington D.C.

It was a very brief trip. I only saw the memorial at a distance because I came across it on a dog walk and there are plenty of signs indicating that dogs are not allowed inside.

No security guards said anything about me walking the dogs in front of the memorial, but I didn’t want to test my luck by approaching the stairs. I just watched tourists take selfies for a while and cursed myself for forgetting to bring my wallet for the concession stand.

My weeks have been pretty busy since the start of school, but I’ll make more of an effort to properly visit some memorials this month. Maybe I’ll get ambitious and add a museum to the list as well.
