Let’s just say it took a long time to get home.
I had a suit on today because of a tax clinic meeting. I still had this suit on when I left work, so there I am, tie and loafers, excavating the car with snow flying everywhere.
It felt like having a snow fight with myself. My name is grace and elegance.
Driving in snow is always aggravating because of the douchecanoe drivers who think that their car has some magic, winter-proof tires. These are the same people spinning out and ditch-diving a half-mile down the road.
I called 911 for one such car on my way home. The pair of girls sailed their car into a snow bank and one of the girls stood on the highway attempting to push the car. It was incredibly dangerous. I called the highway patrol to rescue them, but didn’t stop myself because I had work to do.
I’m caretaker for my apartment building, so I had almost an hour’s worth of shoveling waiting for me when I got home. The dogs enjoyed playing in the snow while I shoveled the back of the building, but they were quite over it by the time we got to the front. I had to stop halfway during shoveling and put them back into the apartment.
I also finished the 50lb bag of salt I bought yesterday. My building has the clearest sidewalks in the neighborhood, but come spring our lawn will probably resemble a Saudi dirt patch.
I think the clean sidewalks are worth it. The tenants do too.

YES. Many years ago, a family member of mine had a car accident and got out of the car to flag down help. A car hit the same icy patch that sent her into the ditch, and then struck and killed her. Stay in your cars, everyone!
