Car rescue

So Havlers decided to come over on the eve of the blizzard.

We started the night by walking the dogs around Lake of the Isles and went to bed after watching trashy reality TV.

Halvers insisted on bringing his car to my place (he lives two blocks away) and… well…

Massive fail.

We stayed in my apartment all day.

The snow fell throughout the evening and completely shut down the city.  The only thing open on my street is a liquor store and a pizzeria.¹ The liquor store was packed. Stay crunk, Minneapolis.

Halvers eventually excavated the car:

We had to move Halver’s car because of the snow emergency parking restrictions. When Minneapolis declares a snow emergency, certain streets become off-limits for parking so that the plows can come through.
The problem is that the side streets aren’t plowed, so everyone fights over spots in what is essentially a giant snow pile. It is a hot mess.
I wasn’t terribly useful in the excavation process because someone stole my second shovel from the building laundry room. So I got to watch as Halvers shoveled most of the street, got stuck and unstuck, and then slid into a spot where he (hopefully) won’t be towed tomorrow morning.

And since we are Minneapolis gays, all of this is to a Robyn soundtrack. Halvers had his windows down and blasted Robyn to compliment the sound of his tires spinning out snow. Extra bass?

The entire experience was hilarious, well, except for the part when Halver’s tires launched a piece of ice into my eye. Eek.

Next time, he’s leaving his car at home.

Halvers: “I just don’t plan ahead sometimes and I didn’t think it was going to be that bad. BUT WHATEVER! We got it out! And I’m not scared of snow.”

We rescued a cute couple after moving Halver’s car. The boy insisted on driving his small car through massive snow walls and his girlfriend was sick of getting stuck in the snow. Halvers helped push the car, and I stood with the girl:

Girl: “I just want to go home. He’s so stubborn. We are just going to keep getting stuck all night.”
Me: “Yeah, at least my boyfriend listens.”
Girl: “Where can I get one?”

Karlstad, Minnesota apparently.

¹All of the chain stores like McDonald’s, CVS, and Starbucks are closed. Natural disasters are time for small business owners (and Denny’s) to shine.
