After two years in Dallas, there are still many neighborhoods that I either have not been to, or haven’t meaningfully explored.
University Park is one of those places. Despite being just on the other side of Highland Park, I rarely venture to this independent Dallas neighborhood.
So accidentally coming across Inwood Village recently felt like a special surprise even though some of my neighbors shop there on a weekly basis. (Inwood Village is a shopping center in Dallas immediately outside of University Park.)
I have a lazy tendency to compare places to each other — which I did here. There was something about the architecture of Inwood Village area and the smell of Trader Joe’s that reminds me of Highland Park, Minnesota.
However, the houses in neighboring University Park are far gaudier than the cute vintage homes in St. Paul. For example:
Ultimately, I don’t see myself spending a ton of time in University Park — it’s pretty, but the shopping that I am interested in mostly consists of chain stores that have locations closer to my apartment.
It was however nice to try out a new Trader Joe’s (or more specifically, to buy the same $2 buck chuck at a new Trader Joe’s.)
