The Offer

Every year, Georgetown and NYU’s LL.M. programs jointly host the “Tax Interview Program” (TIP) — a massive speed-interviewing event where law and accounting firms interview pre-selected candidates.

The bulk of my TIP interview invitations were from Dallas and Houston, so I had a strong feeling that I would be returning to the Texas heat in May.

But then the week before TIP, I unexpectedly received not one, but two (!!) offers in Washington D.C. — and I took one.

So it looks like I officially have more time to check out the countless museums and monuments in town.

I haven’t allowed myself to celebrate yet.

There are still many loose ends and things that can go wrong — I have to pass the standard background and conflicts checks, and then waive into the D.C. bar. The firm may also realize they’ve made some sort of clerical error in sending over the offer letter.

Who knows? 

My classmates think I am being ridiculous, but I’ll believe it when I set foot in the office. Until then, I’ll keep worrying about my quickly impeding finals, papers, and eventually, how I am going to deal with the D.C. humidity come May. 🌡💦
