Yesina gets arrested

My neighbors in Whittier are terrible.

Every Wednesday night my neighborhood loses its damn mind.

I only notice the chaos because I have Wills & Trusts at 8:30am the next day, which means that I should probably go to bed early – but I can’t – because on Wednesday nights the entire neighborhood gathers for a chorus of crazy.

Last night’s crazy started with two guys trying to jump a car at the end of the street. The car doing the jumping had a car alarm which went off every time the guy revved his engine.

This went on for 25 minutes.
Downstairs neighbor then started his weekly all-night party, which created the odd mix of car-alarm and blaring mariachi music.

The last straw was the huge screaming-fight that erupted outside. It was between The Graces, the neighborhood’s favorite trio. Chubby Grace and Obese Grace were having the throw-down of all throw-downs. It’s going to take the parents of the apartment building a month to get their kids to stop repeating the sailor-talk that was screamed. My goodness.

The combination of blaring mariachi music, the car alarm, and the catfight was too much. It was like bad indie music.

I decided it was time to go to Gibs’ apartment, which is in a calmer part of the neighborhood.

I opened my door to leave for Gibs apartment and saw two police officers marching up the stairs. They go to the end of the hallway and bang on Yesina’s door.

A few seconds later Yesina appears in the apartment staircase near her door.
Cop: “Are you Yesina?”
Yesina: “Uh…no! That’s not my name.”
Yesina turned around and started running down the stairs.
Cop #2: “Hey wait! What’s your name?”

The cops chased after Yesina, and I went back into my apartment.
I left the apartment building just in time to see the cops drag Yesina into the patrol car. She shot me a nasty glare. I didn’t know her in that moment.

Downstairs neighbor had switched the Mariachi music to Prince, and filled the street with “Nasty Girl.”

Three of the neighbors from across the street were sitting and smoking on the barrier wall of their apartment building. They pointed and laughed at Yesina. The cops weren’t amused

The whole scene have been odd, if this drama didn’t happen every Wednesday…

I came back a few hours later and everything was silent. It was completely creepy. No one was on the street, or in the hallways of my apartment building…although there was a lone baby-stroller in the hallway near Yesina’s door.

    Earplugs!
If they aren’t enough, iPod with noise isolating earphones (I use Shure earphones with ComplyFoam tips).

For 1L year, I lived in an apartment with a window about 100 yds from I-94, It must have been what stock-car races sound like up close. Add in that my daughter spent many a night screaming during the first year of her life. I can study or sleep now with almost anything going on around me (sound-wise).

Hm. With downstairs neighbor, it’s the vibration from his bass that keeps me awake, not the sound.

Plus people screaming and whistling outside (to be let in) can probably be heard over headphones.
Living near I-94 probably made it easy to get to school!
