We signed the lease to our new place today. So of course the dogs and I spent most of our time at Lake of the Isles.
It was a classy affair. Packing in advance is overrated anyway.
I have been in Uptown/Whittier for two years now and I am over it. I got shot during my move and my first summer here was characterized by police raids on my building.
Oh, and there was another shooting by my apartment and a shooting in my building. Fail.
It was like moving to the wild west, with crackheads. Even my Rottweiler got on the action by joining police raids and finding drunk hobos.
Things did get better though! I picked up multiple internships, landed a full time job and discovered fabulous Uptown bars. I also became the caretaker of my building and drove all of the crazies out. Well, except the passive aggressive note writers and the paranoid schizophrenics…
What ultimately drove me out of this building was the infestation. It’s like the seven plagues of hell in this building. There are mice everywhere, bats, and some the apartments on the upper floors have bed bugs. I am not waiting for the bed bugs to work their way down to the sublevel.
Tonight is my last time sleeping in my old apartment. I was going let myself be nostalgic about my time in Uptown but it is late, I am tired, and a cop car just pulled up to this building. Forget this place. I’m out.
