The Texas heat was not kind to the beautiful, supposedly-resilient Haworthia succulent plants that I brought from D.C.
The plants died, and they died quickly on my new balcony. After a string of 100-degree days, the plants shriveled despite daily watering.
Apparently Dallas also has crickets, who are totally unbothered by the heat. I found my already-suffering plants devoured one morning after they became a midnight buffet for those little terrors.
It was time to toss the plants and start over.
I recently came across this beautiful balcony in DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood.
This is one of the densest neighborhoods in the city, so the balconies on townhomes tend to be drab fire escapes instead of lush balconies like this. The townhome owner fit as many plants onto this back balcony/stairs area as possible without it looking super cluttered.
I think the chandelier on the first floor is overkill, but otherwise I love it. 🎍
The biodiversity in my apartment has taken a hit lately. One of the few plants that I haven’t managed to kill are these Haworthia succulents.
