The Owl

A battery-operated owl scarecrow protecting my balcony from pigeons.

Having a balcony was one of the main wish-list items for my District apartment, and I was so thrilled to find an apartment with some outdoor space again (summer heat, be-damned!)

Apparently I am not the only one who enjoys balconies — a week after moving in, I wake up one morning to find pigeon crap everywhere.

After some Amazon research, I bought an owl “scarecrow” with a motion sensor. I call him Larry.

Larry is creepy, but pretty effective for only $17.99. I haven’t seen a pigeon since.

Update: Totally found a pigeon this afternoon. Larry’s failed me, or at least the Chinatown pigeons aren’t as stupid as I thought. 🦉
