I’ve had my biking desk and faux green wall for a few weeks now and I love my new WFH setup.
The inspiration for the green wall was this post from “A Beautiful Mess,” but I did some modifications.
Specifically, my green wall has lighting, which means that I needed to modify the installation process so the apartment doesn’t burn down. If you want to build your own green wall, I highly recommend consulting an electrician or omitting the lighting element.
Here’s what I used to make the wall.
A jungle of cranes and steel beams surrounds Union Market. Every morning, I pass the trunks of massive apartment towers slowly creeping toward DC’s thirteen story height cap.
We are finally settled into our apartment in Washington D.C. — the hoard of boxes is gone and all of the furniture is put together. Blessed be.
It hit me when I unlocked my apartment door one evening.
The smell was not “dog shat the rug” foul, nor was it “old food in the garbage” foul… it was … just foul.
Sewage foul.
My sink exploded while I was at work. Water and pools of sludge were everywhere.
I think the proper term is “backed up.”
I completed the move to my new apartment and the new mission is renting out my old apartment so I don’t have to pay double rent for September. I spent the majority of the morning inhaling Soft Scrub fumes while polishing old apartment’s kitchen. I then had seven showings today, which was exhausting.
The worst showing of the day was this angry old black woman and her big flamboyant nephew. He’s bouncing around the apartment lisping “honey child” and “ooo gurl” as she gives the Marge Simpson growl and screams “DON’T TOUCH ME!”
My bedroom window was stuck open for most of the summer.
I was too lazy to call the maintenance people, but this wasn’t a big deal because my apartment is not air conditioned and my windows are open most of the time.
I only had the urge to close my window in the middle of the night when there was thunder or police drama outside. These midnight fix-it attempts always failed because there is only so much wrestling I can do with the window before I remember that I’m exposing my underbritches to the entire neighborhood.1
So, I would give up, and forget about the window problem.
The low point was a few days ago when there was a huge storm that blew directly into my window.
